Developing World Health

This year I will be raising sponsorship for a worthy organisation - Developing World Health.

Their Focus
The initial focus of Developing World Health is to target specific tropical infectious diseases which have no or limited treatments available and has already identified for clinical development, two pharmaceutical products as promising treatments against four significant and devastating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). These products require additional clinical development in order to obtain medical approval for use in countries where they are urgently needed.

The four major NTDs being initially targeted by Developing World Health are:
  • Chagas Disease (American trypansomiasis)
  • Leishmaniasis (Kala-azar)
  • Dengue Fever (Breakbone fever)
  • African Trypanosomiasis (Sleeping sickness)
These four NTDs alone effect some 3.3 million people each year and account for the deaths of approximately 150,000 people, many of them children.

In addition to the NTDs mentioned, Developing World Health is also developing a novel anti-malarial drug that, the Foundation believes, could be a major addition to the limited medication available to treat malaria.

50p 'Life Change' Appeal
For as little as 50 pence a child can receive treatment for the most common NTDs for an entire year. The most devastating tropical diseases on earth, such as Bilharzia, River Blindness, Elephantiasis and Trachoma which together affect over one billion people in the developing world.

Developing World Health is a not-for-profit organization with Registered Scottish Charity No. SCO040557
